Season 5 | Episode 505 | EP505
In Season 5, Episode 5 of Shark Tank, Dr. Edna Ma approached the Sharks seeking an investment of $50,000 in exchange for 20% equity in ‘Bare Ease’. The company is currently based in Los Angeles, California.
Dr. Edna Ma is a certified anesthesiologist. BareEase is a product which has been designed to eliminate the pain associated with a bikini wax. It is a numbing kit formed of a pair of underwear and some topical anesthetic numbing cream for waxing. It is applied a few hours before the wax begins. The idea is that it can virtually eliminate all of the pain associated with bikini waxing and hair removal.
Dr. Edna Ma had already put a significant amount of work into getting the product out there. She already had the product listed on DrugStore.com, and it had already managed to work its way into some independent bikini waxing clinics throughout the country. Her reason for coming to the Sharks was for them to help her take the next step to get the product into national chains and large distribution centers.
In the previous year BareEase had managed to generate $45,000 in sales. This year she projected to make $65,000. The profit margins on the product were especially pleasing to the sharks. She stated that the kit retailed for $18.00 and cost less than $3.00 to produce.
Many of the Sharks quickly withdraw themselves from the proceedings when Dr. Edna Ma announces that she is not working on Bare Ease full time. She is still currently working as a Doctor and is teaching medicine ‘on the side’. She also has a large family to care for. Many of the Sharks believed that this has hampered the business. They believe that there is a rather large market there but because Edna has far too much on her plate they believe that she has not done enough to capitalize upon it and they are unsure as to whether she will be able to do so.
Bare Ease did not attract the attention of any of the investors. Dr. Edna Ma did not receive any offers.
As Dr. Edna Ma did not receive any offers for a stake in her business she had little choice but to leave the Shark Tank empty-handed.
Bare Ease had no Shark Tank investors.
